I am saddened today to hear about the early retirement of 1996 Olympic Gold Medallist and Professional Wrestler Kurt Angle. I have always been a big fan of those who demonstrated an absolute mastery of the technical elements of wrestling, and along with Owen Hart, Chris Benoit and Bret Hart, Kurt Angle was definitely among my favourites!!
Along with mastery of his craft and unparalleled intensity, Kurt Angle also demonstrated a love and dedication to the fans as well as a drive and passion to be the best. This was evident throughout much of his career as he delivered for the fans night after night despite a broken or injured neck.
I had the pleasure of attending WrestleMania XIX in Seattle. In the main event Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar put on a wrestling clinic that stole the show. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little concerned about Kurt as his neck injury going into this match was well documented. In the end though he came out of it in better shape than Brock Lesnar who misjudged the distance on a Shooting Star Press and ended up with a severe concussion after landing on his head.
To Kurt Angle -- for all the matches, charisma, for your Intelligence, Integrity and Intensity ... for all the wonderful memories: Thank You! I wish nothing but health and happiness to you and your family!
